The Story of ROTATE™

The ROTATE™ method was born out of a personal journey. A dancer with over 20 years of experience in styles ranging from hip-hop to salsa and West Coast Swing, found himself with a new mission as a father of two young boys. He wanted to find a professional, foundational dance program for his sons—one that wasn’t solely focused on classical ballroom dance or competitive routines. He realized there was a missing piece in the dance world: a lack of programs that blended a love of movement with essential life skills.

To bridge this gap, he enlisted the help of several dancing specialists in various styles. For five years, they worked together to build and refine the ROTATE™ program from the ground up, blending principles from various partner dance styles to create a unique, low-impact curriculum. The result is a method that teaches children to build self-confidence, learn to connect with others, and lay a solid foundation for any dance style they may choose in the future. ROTATE™ is about more than just steps; it’s about giving kids the skills to thrive on and off the dance floor.

At ROTATE™, we ensure the highest quality instruction through our ROTATE™ Certified program. This certification is a supplementary qualification that builds upon a teacher’s original local teaching certification. We encourage you to ask your local studio or dance teacher to provide proof of their primary local certification and insurance, as this is a key part of our standards.

Our certified instructors come from a diverse range of dance backgrounds, including West Coast Swing, salsa, and ballroom. When they are teaching a ROTATE™ class, they follow our dedicated curriculum. However, they may still use their original certification routines for warm-ups to prevent potential injuries, ensuring a safe and effective start to every class. This allows them to bring their professional experience to the classroom while maintaining the integrity of the ROTATE™ method.

A ROTATE™ Certified studio is more than just a place to take a class—it’s a partner in your child’s development. Our studios are committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and judgment-free environment where every child feels confident to learn and grow.

To maintain our standards and build a strong community, our certified partners are required to host closed events for the centers and schools they teach in. They also host at least one annual county or area-wide contest with a minimum of 120 dancers to qualify for ROTATE™ accreditation. This provides a clear goal for students and allows them to celebrate their progress in a supportive, community-oriented setting.
